" Operation 'Iride' , conducted on September 5th and 6th by the General Directorate of Specialties of the Penitentiary Police, concluded brilliantly with the transfer of 88 inmates under the 41-bis regime to the Uta prison in Cagliari ." This was stated by Chiara Colosimo, president of the parliamentary anti-mafia commission , commenting on the massive transfer of maximum security inmates to the recently completed prison in the Sardinian capital.

"The operation," Colosimo adds, "confirms the validity of the prison reorganization plan promoted by the Government . The process also responds to a need long-standing among the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commissions: to overcome the promiscuity between the various prison systems and create centers dedicated exclusively to 41-bis, a fundamental guarantee for eliminating the power of mafia leaders. The final result demonstrates the high professionalism of the Penitentiary Police and the State's constant attention to managing prison security."

"The resources deployed testify to the impressive organizational effort," Colosimo emphasizes, "including 207 officers from the GOM, GIO, and local units, 65 service vehicles divided into eight land convoys, seven ambulances, ten military flights, two Guardia di Finanza aircraft, and two drones for aerial monitoring. The operation, led by the Director of the GOM together with the local police forces, included extraordinary searches and constant analysis of various communications to intercept and prevent any risk."
