Coastal erosion is advancing on the Porto Torres coast. Mayor Massimo Mulas has issued an ordinance to protect citizens, signed today at the request of the Forestry and Environmental Supervisory Body (Cfva) of the Sardinia Region, which prohibits walking or standing on the coast, between the coves after Balai Lontano and the Torre by Abbacurrente .

The provision, which effectively extends the section already blocked by a previous ordinance between the Farritza and the Aragonese turret, was taken following an inspection carried out by the CFVA at the beginning of November.

In the report sent to the Municipality, "a structural weakness of the rock formations that make up the coast is highlighted and which, especially in the presence of water, could significantly contribute to the instability conditions of the coastal stretch itself". Furthermore, the report specifies that "the weakness structure of the rock formations that would appear to be affected by faults and fractures. This natural erosive process could create critical conditions, landslide hazards, from which public safety implications as well as environmental ones could arise".

"This is a painful measure - declares the mayor - but dutiful given the critical issues highlighted and adds to the one already adopted in the past to ban access from the beach of La Farritza to Abbacurrente".
