Twelve people rescued, including two children.
This is the result of two separate interventions at sea by the Coast Guard in favor of two sailboats in danger in the waters of the La Maddalena Archipelago.
The Operations Room of the Harbor Master's Office received, on VHF channel 16, a MAY DAY from a sailing yacht which requested immediate assistance for 2 crew members seriously injured following an accident in the waters between Palau and the Island of Santo Stefano , during the participation in the "Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup" sailing regatta underway in the waters of Northern Sardinia.
Following contacts with the operations center of the 118 health service, medical personnel were embarked in the port of La Maddalena on board a Coast Guard patrol boat immediately set off again at maximum speed towards the sailing unit. After having intercepted the unit, the medical personnel stabilized the wounded (who suffered head trauma, with various haemorrhages and bruises) then transported to the small port of Cala Camiciotto and entrusted to the care of the 118 air rescue service.
The other request for help, received via the blue number for emergencies at sea 1530, came from a pleasure sailing boat, with 10 people of German nationality on board, including 2 children, ended due to ongoing causes investigation, on shoals and shallow waters in the locality of "Cala d'Inferno", with considerable damage to the governing bodies due to the impact on the rocks.
The operations room of the Coast Guard of La Maddalena ordered the immediate dispatch of the employee SAR CP 870 patrol boat which, having arrived on site, after having ascertained the good health conditions of the occupants and the absence of leaks and water infiltrations, proceeded to the safe transhipment of children and some passengers , awaiting the intervention of a specialized company which freed the vessel and then safely towed it to the small tourist port of Cala Gavetta.
