Last Saturday, the Carabinieri conducted a coordinated operation in La Maddalena , including checkpoints, port inspections, and environmental inspections at sea and on land . These are surprise raids that are organized from time to time throughout the archipelago to prevent and suppress various types of crime and to carry out administrative checks.

During the operation, the operational units stopped 51 vehicles and identified 88 individuals; of these, four were fined for lack of insurance coverage. Some military personnel supervised ferry embarkation and disembarkation operations, while a naval unit ("Monteleone") inspected four vessels. Other military personnel worked to prevent the illicit export of protected natural materials (sand, stones, etc.). The operation was carried out with the coordination of the Olbia Territorial Unit, the Hunters Squadron, and CAN personnel.

In La Maddalena, the Carabinieri have only seven permanent units at the local barracks, supported by a Navy station and a small forestry station on Caprera. This is in an area with a population of over 11,000 residents, which can triple in high season, and which must contend with a national park whose waters are plied by thousands upon thousands of vessels.
