The Tempio Pausania Court of Review has upheld the asset seizure order for Claudio Tollis, former councilor of the Municipality of La Maddalena, who is under investigation, along with his nephew Alessio Brunetti, for aggravated fraud against the European Union, embezzlement, and misappropriation of public funds.
The decision concerns a measure freezing assets worth approximately €100,000. According to investigations conducted by the Palau Guardia di Finanza (Fiamme Gialle), coordinated by the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), funding was requested and obtained for the construction of a kiosk on the Cardellino beach in La Maddalena, a project that was never built. Tollis's lawyer, criminal lawyer Luigi Esposito, explained that construction work on the kiosk was delayed due to problems at the construction site. Judge Marcella Pinna accepted the European Public Prosecutor's Office's argument, which alleges and disputes false corporate representations and untrue tax documentation in order to obtain permits and funding.
The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) is taking a special interest in the economic situation in Olbia and Gallura, monitoring business operations (as well as public interventions) supported by EU funds. This work, conducted also through local control bodies and the judicial police, concerns EU support for agriculture (including agrivoltaics), construction and modernization of industrial facilities, and tourism promotion projects (training and information activities for tourism development). Cross-border fraud is also being addressed. The magistrates delegated to the Italian territory have already met with the heads of the Guardia di Finanza in Cagliari.
