About 400 kilos of waste including a lot of plastic, old metal camp beds and some chairs were taken away. But 150 kilos of quartz returned to the beach: it is the one that was seized during the last season by the Forestry, Local Police and Barracelli.
The third Sinis Ecological Day took place this morning on the beach of Is Arutas. Event promoted by the Municipality of Cabras in collaboration with the Sinis Marine Protected Area as part of the Ecological Days 2025. The protagonists of the initiative were the students of the middle schools of Cabras and Riola Sardo, who actively participated in the environmental education activities, contributing to the collection of microplastics. The young people were able to follow a mini course during which they learned more about the marine world and how dangerous waste is for flora and fauna. They then learned the basics of environmental protection, in particular regarding sand thefts, which constantly undermine the marine ecosystem.

The girls and boys were awarded the honorary title of Sinis Sentinels, with the fundamental task of monitoring their marine environment during the summer holidays and received t-shirts, caps and bags branded Marine Protected Area.

Carlo Carta, Councilor for the Environment: "During these days we wanted to make young people responsible, those who will have to work in the future to protect the territory. For this reason we entrusted them with the task of always being vigilant, sharing the information received with their family and friends, being an example for others and paying attention to the behavior of others on the beach. We also explained to them that the most correct approach towards those who make mistakes and do not follow the rules is always kindness. Only in this way can you get a positive response from the other and put an end to the incorrect behavior."
