The Olbia Coast Guard blocked the Togo-flagged merchant ship "Ak Denisa" at the "Cocciani" industrial dock, after detecting various irregularities on board, such as to affect the safety of navigation.
On the boat, 95 meters long and with 4,255 gross tons, the military of the Harbor Master's Office found serious deficiencies in the fire safety systems and in the related maintenance procedures. Non-compliance also in navigation instruments, in cargo hold closing devices, in safety certification and in on-board documents.
Irregularities, according to international standards, make the merchant ship below the minimum safety standards required for navigation. And the authorities have therefore ordered the stop.
The ship landed in Gallura on February 17, coming from Durres, Albania, to load blocks of marble and proceed to Abu Kir, Egypt. It will remain stationary on the quay at the industrial port of Olbia, in a state of detention, until on board the minimum safety measures for navigation are restored.
