He destroys the cell and attacks the officers, causing one of them to lose his shoulder.

It happened today in Bancali prison, as reported by the USPP union, which emphasizes that it is the fifth attack against prison police in a month.

The prisoner, perhaps impaired by the consumption of home-made alcohol, was aggressive and threatening for some time.

He first pushed an officer, and when he was taken to the infirmary, the police found a homemade knife on him , also intended to attack. Returning to his cell, he blocked the lock and struck an officer with a stick. Transferred to a holding cell, he destroyed some of the furniture, obtaining metal pieces that he threw at the officers, threatening them.

When the staff tried to stop him, he used a piece of iron to attack them and, at this stage, one officer's shoulder came off.

He was taken to the emergency room, where orthopedists had to perform a painful maneuver to reposition the joint. His condition is delicate and several days of treatment and recovery are expected. Two other police officers were also injured.

The USPP urges against underestimating the problem and calls for an immediate strengthening of staff and operational support , concrete measures for the management of highly dangerous inmates and the prevention of violent behavior, clear and implemented protocols for the protection of staff, including from a health and psychological perspective, and a serious review of the organizational decisions adopted thus far.

"Safety cannot be left to improvisation," union leaders declare. "Timely, clear, and responsible decisions are needed, because officers cannot continue to work in conditions of permanent risk."
