Yet another episode of violence at the Badu 'e Carros prison in Nuoro. A policeman was attacked while taking a prisoner back to his cell who had been taken to the infirmary for a visit. The inmate refused to return to the room and threatened the officers. Then he lashed out at one of the officers who was trying to calm him down.

The episode was made known by Michele Cireddu, general secretary of the UIL PA Penitentiary Police of Sardinia: «The situation in Nuoro is now unsustainable, the prisoner responsible for the attack is well known in the news for the violent attitudes implemented in the institutions in which he was, and now is creating the same problems in the Nuoro prison. There is not a day in which he does not try to attack the officers, throw his excrement on the operators, constantly threaten the policemen who serve in the section, refuse to return to his cell and on several occasions has destroyed the internal furnishings, walls and the bathroom".

The Department – adds Cireddu – «must urgently find a solution before extremely tragic events occur. Immediate interventions are needed and staff must be equipped with tools and means to safely counter attacks to avoid significant physical damage to staff and to the inmates themselves."
