The national average for the water bill is 478 euros per year. In Sardinia in 2023, families on the island spent an average of 533 euros, with an increase of 5.9% compared to 2022 and 25.6% in the last 5 years. It is not the most expensive region, the island comes in fifth place in this unenviable ranking.

These are the new data from the Cittadinanzattiva Price and Tariff Observatory released on the occasion of World Water Day. The report is based on a typical family of 3 people with an annual consumption of 182 cubic meters. The analysis indicates Sassari city as the Sardinian capital of water losses: 62 percent. Percentages that decrease if you look at the province: 53.8 percent (the data on sieve networks, reading the report, refer to 2020).

As regards the capitals, Cagliari is at 53.5 percent (province 46.4), Oristano at 53.4 (60.3) and Nuoro at 52 (54.5).

Furthermore, according to the report, in Sardinia 37.9 percent are little or not at all satisfied with the understandability of the bill. There is also 32.8 percent of the sample interviewed who have something to say about the "smell, taste and clarity of water" item.

A family of three people, with an ISEE threshold of up to 9,530 euros and which has access to the social water bonus, according to Cittadinanzattiva's findings, saves around 104 euros annually, i.e. 22% or 27% less depending on whether it has an annual consumption of 182 cubic meters or 150 cubic meters. In particular, in Sardinia, the value of the bonus is equal to 114 euros.
