A massive landfill covering approximately 12,000 square meters. Ninety tons of waste have been dumped over the years near the Santa Gilla lagoon in Cagliari, discovered during a cleanup operation conducted by the Port Authority in collaboration with the City Council's Department of Urban Ecology.
The ongoing project involves general cleaning of the area and the disposal of waste in a landfill, after sampling and laboratory analysis, for disposal or recycling.
The work is scheduled for completion by April 11th. Meanwhile, a gate will be installed to block access from Via San Simone. This work will complement the closure of the area, already initiated by the Municipality, which also included closing other access points near the parking lots of the nearby shopping center.
Finally, the area will be monitored by a video surveillance system connected to the Authority's operations center. "With this intervention , we are putting an end to the degradation of an area adjacent to an area of particular environmental value and regional importance," explains Domenico Bagalà, president of the AdSP del Mare di Sardegna. "In collaboration with the Municipality, we are aiming not only for remediation and surveillance, but also for the permanent valorization of the site . Making the complex equipped and accessible to the community is key to preventing new forms of degradation and avoiding the waste of public resources for remediation projects like the one currently underway."
