48.2 degrees centigrade. It is the absolute maximum temperature ever reached in Sardinia since the values were recorded.
The record was reached in July 2023 in Jerzu and Lotzorai, just 0.6 degrees lower than the absolute temperature record ever recorded in Europe, i.e. 48.8 degrees, which was reached in Syracuse on 11 August 2021.
The data is revealed by the SNPA (National Environmental Protection System) report entitled "The climate in Italy in 2023", which contains numbers that allow us to "characterize" the Italian climate and its evolution, from the national to the local scale.
The dossier highlights how during 2023 the highest daily minimum temperatures were recorded in our country: +1.20 degrees centigrade "anomaly", the highest in the historical series.
Furthermore, the report notes, last year was, with an anomaly of +1.14 °C, the second warmest in terms of average temperatures compared to the climatological value of the period 1991-2020, after the record of +1 ,23 °C in 2022.
The report also takes stock of the water crisis. In this regard, in 2023 Italy is in conditions of "drought and water severity", having an availability of water resources 16% lower than the average value 1991-2020, with Sardinia present in the list of territories in which the availability of water appears particularly reduced.
