Sardinia ever closer to the change of band, which probably does not start immediately for a few percentage points. The official will only take place tomorrow with the presentation of the monitoring by the Ministry of Health. At the moment, based on the three parameters used for the change of band (incidence, admissions to intensive care and those in the medical area) two are in the yellow zone: in fact, the threshold of 50 Covid cases per 100 thousand inhabitants has been exceeded (in the last seven 545 days) and yesterday the occupancy of the beds in intensive care was 14% (at 10 the yellow goes off). White island, perhaps, only then thanks to the pressure on the medical departments that does not exceed 15% (yesterday it was 13%).

The hospitalizations

On the rise not only infections but also hospitalizations in Sardinia, and in general throughout Italy. The occupation of the intensive care units on the Island has risen by three percentage points in four days.

According to the National Agency for Regional Health Services, which photographs the situation every day, there are 204 beds available on the island and 16 can be activated (21 is the threshold beyond which the yellow is triggered, 27 are occupied). The national average is 18% (it was 11 on 24 December 2021) with the highest point in the Province of Trento (31%) and the lowest in Puglia (10%).

In non-critical area hospital wards, Covid hospitalizations on the island mark 13% (2 points more than on Friday 7), the lowest percentage in Italy together with that of Molise; the national average is 27% with a peak of 54% in Valle D'Aosta. There are 1,602 places available, the maximum threshold for remaining blank is the occupation of 15%, therefore 240 (those occupied are 215).

In Sardinian hospitals

In detail in the hospitals of Cagliari there are 80 hospitalized for Covid al Binaghi out of 81 beds and of these there are 11 in intensive care with an occupancy that rises to 100% and even 150% (15 patients out of 10 theoretical beds) in brief intensive observation. The percentage drops to 86% at the Holy Trinity where the beds are 86 and 74 are occupied by positives. Seven out of 8 beds are occupied in intensive care, but the situation in internal medicine (105% with 22 hospitalized out of 21 official beds) and pulmonology (100% of beds or 20 out of 20) is even more critical. In Sassari there are nine patients admitted to the Aou intensive care unit, while 17 are in the sub intensive care unit and another 18 in the infectious disease ward, while in the Marino di Alghero there are 44 Covid patients in the medical ward.

New cure in Sassari

Meanwhile, the Aou of Sassari has activated 10 beds in the emergency room for the administration of monoclonal antibodies, the new antiviral therapy capable of immediately blocking the evolution of the disease. Not only that, by the end of the month the T30, the new intensive care with 30 workstations, should come into operation. "Today we have about 40 positive people in the emergency room and, among these, 25 need hospitalization," says Franco Bandiera, medical director of the Aou of Sassari.
