They act mainly at night: they break down the windows or force the shutters of the shops, and once inside they grab the few coins in the cash register, taking away some objects to resell. The gangs specialized in thefts - even if they are often lone thieves looking for easy money - leave behind huge damage and cause a strong sense of insecurity in the city's merchants. Since the beginning of the year, between successful or attempted robberies, reported to the police or not made official, we are talking about thirty cases: one every two days, with even trails of four or five raids in a single night. Not counting the thefts with dexterity or those that are classified as "improper" robberies, that is, when the thief pushes or attacks the shopkeeper or the security guard to escape.
In recent months, the areas most affected have been San Benedetto, Fonsarda and Sant'Avendrace . "There is a lot of concern," explain Marco Medda, provincial president of Confesercenti and Giuseppe Scura, director of Confcommercio Sud Sardegna.
An issue that has already ended up on the table of the prefect of Cagliari, Giuseppe Castaldo, as highlighted by the deputy mayor Cristina Mancini. «On Wednesday», underlines the prefect, «the topic will be at the center of the provincial committee for public order and safety» .
