An illegal landfill covering 5 thousand square meters was seized in the Capoterra area. There was also hazardous waste in the area and one person was reported.

The operation was conducted by the Cagliari Investigative Unit of the Forestry Corps in the Sa Musciuriglia area, within an agricultural company, within a portion of land protected by a blackout net.

During the intervention, the presence of a large quantity of waste was ascertained: approximately 180 cubic meters of material of all kinds including used oils, asbestos, demolition scraps, disused furniture, gardening residues, car scrap. There are also residues from the periodic combustion of waste.

The area was seized and the owner, an agricultural entrepreneur from Capoterra, was charged with the crime of illegal landfill which involves a prison sentence of one to three years and a fine of between 5,200 euros and 52,200 euros, plus to reclamation.

Since last October 12th, the Forestry Corps recalls, “the abandonment of waste has been combated more severely also at a regulatory level. In fact, a law has come into force which qualifies even the simple abandonment of a bag containing municipal waste as a crime, with a tightening of the penalties".
