Special rescue intervention for the Carabinieri of the Radiomobili of Iglesias, who saved a specimen of Sardinian turtle, found dying in a ditch in the Villamarini area.

The alarm was raised by a passer-by who noticed the tortoise - perhaps attacked by a wild animal - injured and lying among the branches.

The soldiers therefore recovered her and notified the regional veterinary service who intervened on the spot.

The veterinarians, after the initial analyses, explained that it was a fifty-year-old specimen of "Testudo Marginata" (or Sardinian tortoise), a land turtle which reaches the largest size of all the Mediterranean ones.

The new mascot of the local Army will now be treated and, after an antibiotic treatment, will be released back into its natural habitat.
