Two people sanctioned by the Forestry Corps of the Cagliari territorial service as part of checks against violations of the rules regulating the fishing and sale of sea urchins.

This is a non-professional fisherman, surprised in Sarroch, near Sa Punta , with a basket of freshly caught sea urchins which, when checked, were found to be undersized. And of a street vendor who displayed sea urchins on his stall in Quartu Sant'Elena, which were also undersized in this case.

Measures have been taken for both, with administrative sanctions that can reach up to three thousand euros.

Hundreds of hedgehogs seized during the two checks.

«Fishing for undersized urchins is causing the compromise of the marine ecosystem, in fact the scientific studies commissioned by the Region have found that in some fishing areas of Southern Sardinia the "extinction" of commercial sizes has already been detected", he explains in a note from the Forestry Corps, which makes an appeal to consumers «to avoid purchasing not only sea urchins with a diameter of less than 5 cm, but also sea urchin pulp illicitly potted in improvised packaging, because in derogation of the rules on hygiene and traceability, as well as without labelling".
