More and more Sardinians are receiving treatment outside the region: spending by the island's local health authorities has exceeded €129 million , compared to €27 million for non-resident patients treated in local hospitals. And the trend is worsening: the deficit has grown from €96 million to €101 million in one year.

According to the Gimbe report on healthcare mobility, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna are the regions with the highest positive balances.
