Sixteen handwritten pages in which Antonio Urgias recounts, word for word, the events that on Friday prompted him to take his own life with a gunshot to the head, after having shot two superiors in the knees.

"When you read these words of mine, I may no longer be here", the tragic incipit of a document in the hands of his trusted lawyer, Elias Vacca. At this stage, the lawyer prefers to keep the content strictly confidential. Already today he will deliver the package to the judicial authority, because it is clear that it will become a potential crime report.

The file

In the dossier there would be facts, dates, names and surnames, against the background of what could appear to be a story of mobbing. And the lawyer Vacca, in whom Urgias had full confidence, was thus entrusted with the task of trying to right the wrongs suffered. Those who frequented him report that the man could no longer bear injustice and did not know how to manage anger. In other words: he felt persecuted. "He hadn't responded to messages for days," they say. Last December 30 Antonio Urgias, 43, lost his mind: he took up a pistol and shot the director of the Ungias-Galantè eco-centre, Ivan Cherchi, 43, in both legs, and his deputy Sergio Florulli in the right thigh , aged 57. The two are still hospitalized in the Marino hospital, after having undergone an operation to remove the bullets.

In the township

In Sa Segada, the village where Antonio Urgias lived, in a building next to the old school, they describe him as a polite and kind person. "A piece of bread," confirms Antonio Zidda, president of the village committee, deeply sorry for the sad epilogue. Even at the Kombat sports center, where Urgias often trained, they remember him as a "serious and respectful" athlete. The body will be returned to the family tomorrow, to allow for the funeral scheduled for 3.30 pm in the church of San Giuseppe.
