They intervene in a dispute and find an illegal landfill of 600 square meters, full of special and hazardous waste .
It happened in Guamaggiore , where Carabinieri from the Guasila station reported four people at large for violating environmental regulations. They are three foreigners, street vendors with valid residence permits, and an 82-year-old local pensioner .
The police responded to a citizen's call to 112 reporting a fight that had broken out in a downtown residence . Upon arrival, they determined that the three foreigners, temporarily housed in the pensioner's home, had turned the courtyard and two adjacent warehouses, totaling approximately 600 square meters, into an uncontrolled dumping ground for special and hazardous waste .
There were pieces of iron, exhausted batteries, used oil, disused furniture, mechanical parts of vehicles and much other waste material .
Staff from the Cagliari Local Health Authority's Prevention Department were then called to the scene and declared the home and its appurtenances uninhabitable for serious health and hygiene reasons . Subsequently, the Mandas Fire Department conducted a technical inspection and declared the building structurally unfit for use .
The three foreign citizens were immediately removed from the home, while the pensioner was taken into the care of the municipal social services and relocated to the home of a family member living in the village. The entire area and the materials found were seized.
The four were jointly charged with the crimes of illegal management and uncontrolled storage of special, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste.
