The two boys, who had not been heard from since January 25, were found in the deconsecrated church of Santa Lucia . According to ongoing investigations, Giuseppe and Karol moved away from Olbia on January 25 , scared of the consequences of something that is now being examined by the State Police and the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office of Sassari .

The lawyer Ivano Iai, lawyer for Giuseppe Contini's mother , declared: «On behalf of Mrs. Elisabetta Loriga, particular gratitude is extended, for the commendable public service performed, to the State Police and the Carabinieri of Olbia and to the public prosecutor of the Tempio Daniele Rosa Prosecutor's Office, all incessantly engaged in research to favor the positive and prompt conclusion of a separation , perhaps unconscious, whose main effects were the anguish and fear of the families for the fate of the young Giuseppe and Karol. Mrs. Loriga also expresses great gratitude to the media for having been able to maintain high and constant attention towards the case, significantly motivating the local communities to make heartfelt appeals, as well as to Dr. Giovanni Carta for the precious and timely research activity carried out during these ten interminable days."
