A grand celebration took place on Saturday in Ghilarza for the 100th birthday of Maria Antonia Piras, born on September 5, 1926. The centenarian celebrated this important milestone surrounded by the affection of her three children, Pino, Palmerio, and Rita, her grandchildren Carlo, Fabrizio, Roberto, Mirko, and Simone, and her great-granddaughter Rebecca, on a day filled with emotion and celebration. Despite her age, Maria Antonia enjoys excellent health and maintains a cheerful and jovial personality. She personally thanked the many people who came to visit her, making her birthday a moment of community. Widowed for nearly thirty years by her husband, Mario Schirra, she dedicated her life to her family, setting an example of hard work and dedication for her children. This evening, she will receive a visit from Mayor Eugenia Usai, who will convey the city administration's tributes on behalf of the entire population. There is also a curiosity worth highlighting: aunt Maria Antonia lives in via Cagliari, a few steps from the home of Salvatorangelo Onida, who turned 100 in July, while his wife Caterina Schirra is 99. A coincidence that has led residents to rename that street as "the street of centenarians", a symbol of a longevity that continues to surprise and unite in Ghilarza.
