No step backwards, despite the clash with Transport Minister Matteo Salvini. The general strike proclaimed by the national CGIL and UIL for Friday 17 November is confirmed and in Sardinia it will be accompanied by a regional demonstration in Cagliari : the theater is that of Piazza del Carmine, starting from 9.30 am.

«The right to strike cannot be questioned by the government», maintain the regional secretaries of CGIL and UIL, Fausto Durante and Francesca Ticca, who underline: «The union and the workers will not be intimidated by Minister Salvini and his threats. For this reason they will fill the squares in Sardinia and in the rest of the country and this will be the best response to the government's arrogance."

The day of November 17, explains a note from the unions, is part of the broader context of the mobilization started by the national CGIL and UIL with the slogan "Now Enough!" to change the budget bill and the economic and social policies of the Meloni government and in support of unitary trade union platforms.

The mobilization is divided into 5 days of general strike: this Friday, in addition to the regions of Central Italy, some categories will go on strike throughout the national territory, on 20 November the general strike will take place in Sicily, on the 24th in the regions of Northern Italy, on November 27th in Sardinia and December 1st in Southern Italy.

The sectors affected by the strike in Sardinia on Friday are: public
employment (with reduction of hours to 4 for firefighters), functions
central, local authorities, healthcare, third sector, environmental hygiene, postal services, contracted services, reclamation consortia, schools, universities, research, Afam, professional training, transport (excluding ground and air transport staff).

«They promised to cancel the Fornero law and instead they not only confirm it but make it worse», denounce the workers' representatives, «and cut resources for public schools and social policies, weaken the healthcare system, do not invest in health and safety, they do not tax extra profits and penalize income from work and pensions." In short, the measures proposed by the government do not provide any response to the wage emergency, they do not intervene on precariousness to encourage what would be desirable, i.e. measures in favor of stable and quality work".

Eight points of the platform proposed by CGIL and UIL.

The first is work, "with the aim of increasing wages, renewing contracts, strengthening purchasing power and reducing the gender gap in the labor market". Taxation, "which must be progressive, exclude the flat tax and provide for a real fight against tax evasion". Young people, "who need to be guaranteed the right to education, a stable job and a guaranteed contributory pension".

And again, the unions ask for the " overcoming of Fornero and the protection of the purchasing power of pensions, the relaunch of the public health system and the refinancing of the laws on non-self-sufficiency and disability, investments in health and safety to stop the massacre in jobs, an industrial strategy to deal with the transition, new policies for the reception and integration of migrants".
