«The murals on public buildings are works of art, not messes». The Pietraia neighborhood committee dissociates itself from the statements of councilor Christian Mulas, group leader of the UDC, who in a note had criticized the choice of the Alghero Administration to commit 35 thousand euros to design the facades of the buildings in Via Tiziano.

Even the member of the majority had pointed the finger at the uselessness of the initiative in a district lacking in services. The president of the Pietraia neighborhood committee, Gavino Carta, does not think the same way and defends the two artistic projects which «create relationships, create society, are tools of social inclusion, cultural growth and urban redevelopment», says Carta. «The Committee has welcomed this project with enthusiasm from the beginning, committing itself to making the history of the neighborhood known to the artists by contributing to the design of their works, which represent the past, present and future of the neighborhood and not just "octopus and crustaceans" », the president is keen to point out. «During the creation of the two Urban Art works, the opportunity for discussion was created between the inhabitants of the neighborhood who followed the work in large numbers every day. The students of the Pietraia middle school and the artistic high school were able to get to know, interact with the artists and create, under their guidance, works of Urban Art in the skatepark area."

Not useless messes, in short, but works by two world-famous artists, such as Luca Rancy (he has been creating urban art since 2003, he has exhibited at the Milan Triennale, boasting international collaborations including that with Elio Fiorucci and participating in various international festivals) and Fabio Tellas (the best-known Sardinian street artist in the world has been creating urban art since 1998, boasting several collaborations with international institutes in major countries such as the USA, China, Russia, and last week Corriere's Living magazine chose him to design the celebratory cover of his 10 years).

«We are aware that the Pietraia neighborhood needs redevelopment projects for its valorization but this does not mean that these "designs" serve to remove our neighborhood from anonymity and silence which is still the entrance and the ticket visit of our city which today presents itself with works of art and not with two completely anonymous facades. We hope that this Administration and those that follow will make the Pietraia an open-air museum", concludes Gavino Carta.
