A flurry of checks by the Sassari Provincial Command's Finance Police are targeting potential fuel price speculation, following warnings of price increases following the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz due to the conflict between the US and Iran. This was followed by a government decree attempting to temporarily control diesel and gasoline prices.
Over the last twenty days , fourteen checks have been conducted at roadside petrol stations in the Sassari area, during which ten cases of failure to communicate prices to the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy were detected, resulting in fines of €4,000.
"Checks in this specific sector have been further intensified since March 19, when, as a result of the government's fuel tax measures, diesel, gasoline, and LPG prices were supposed to decrease," explains a statement from the Sassari Guardia di Finanza (Gdf) Command. "The checks conducted by the financial police," the statement continues, "have also allowed us to identify another similar irregularity at a petrol station in Sassari where the operator, despite being duly registered on the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy portal, forgot to submit the periodic weekly reports."
