From Mazara del Vallo with irregular trawl nets.

Administrative fine of 4,000 euros and seizure of work tools for two fishing boats moored at the small port of Golfo Aranci.

The operation, carried out by the military of the Golfo Aranci Coast Guard and the personnel of the 15th Fishing Area Control Center of the Olbia Coast Guard, started last weekend.

2 fishing nets were found on board the Sicilian boats in which the so-called "sack" (end part of the net) was made up of meshes smaller than the size established by law, an action which entails a drastic reduction in the selectivity of the fishing gear and the capture of specimens below the minimum size permitted by law. «The activity implemented by the Coast Guard, in particular by the nucleus specialized in the sector of controls on the fishing chain, reads the note sent by the Olbia Maritime Directorate, in addition to having a repressive purpose, also has a deterrence function against of those who undertake illegal activities, in defiance of current national and community regulations. The daily monitoring of fishing activities put in place by the 15th Fishing Area Control Center of the Olbia Maritime Directorate and by the dependent offices - concludes the note - will continue in the coming days in order to avert illegal behaviour, safeguard the fish resource and guarantee the protection of the final consumer".
