" Public service obligations must apply to freight transport to and from Sardinia ." This is the content of the motion the Reformers presented this morning in the Regional Council . The aim is to provide solutions to the price increases imposed by shipping companies starting January 1st . The expected increases are up to 50% for the portion of the ticket that includes CO2 emissions and fuel surcharges.
The Sardinian Reformers' operational proposal calls on the regional assembly to open "discussions with the state to obtain the compensation necessary to safeguard the logistics system, but also the very survival of companies, thus the transport chain and, more generally, the island's entire production system."
The press conference was opened by group leader Umberto Ticca. The party's two other councilors, Aldo Salaris and Giuseppe Fasolino, were also present. Former parliamentarian Michele Cossa, the Sardinian Liberal Democrats' delegate for insularity, "to which this battle is linked," also spoke. Massimiliano Manca, an engineer and logistics expert, also participated.
The Sardinian Reformers explained: "We're talking about a support program that has already been endorsed by the European Union: both Corsica and Greece have implemented models that guarantee maximum fares, travel certainty for truckers, and minimum capacity year-round, including the summer months, when companies tend to prioritize passenger traffic, as it's more profitable."
