Reclassify the crime from mistreatment to abuse of means of correction. This is the request made today in court in Sassari by prosecutor Angelo Beccu in the case involving a 60-year-old teacher accused of mistreating two four-year-old children, students at the school where she works.

The alleged incidents date back to last year. The young students were allegedly hit on the head, spanked, and slapped, and were grabbed and pulled by the ears . On another occasion, according to the charges, the teacher allegedly lifted one of the children, who had fallen to the floor, and forced him to sit down, "slamming him into the chair."

A series of behaviors which, according to the Prosecutor's Office, would have generated in the children "an oppressive and domineering lifestyle".

The deputy prosecutor requested a four-month sentence, while the civil party, represented by attorney Stefano Porcu, insisted on the original charge of mistreatment. Preliminary hearing judge Gian Paolo Piana adjourned the case until May for the defense, represented by attorney Marco Palmieri.
