Foibe, in Carbonia the tribute to the 140 Sardinians slaughtered in the Arsia coalfield
The ceremony with the placing of a bouquet of flowers next to the stele in the Martiri delle Foibe ParkToday, on the occasion of the "Day of Remembrance", flags at half-mast in the Municipality of Carbonia in memory of the victims of the Foibe and of the thousands of Italians slaughtered and infoibati in the karst cavities of Friuli and Istria.
Innocent victims, killed for the sole reason of being Italians residing in the border areas and subjected to a ruthless ethnic cleansing operation .
This morning the administration placed, at the stele located in the Martiri delle Foibe Park, a bouquet of flowers to symbolically remember all the victims.
Among the victims of the Foibe there are also about 140 Sardinians , many of them miners from Carbonia and Sulcis killed in the Arsia coal basin .
"On days like these, it is more necessary than ever to be the bearer of a message of freedom, tolerance, peace, justice, integration and the fight against all intolerance, discrimination and inequality ", commented the deputy mayor Michele Stivaletta.
