On the website of Sogaer, the management company of Cagliari airport, it is still listed as "delayed": expected at 11:55, the arrival seems to have been postponed to 21:00 (9 hours later). But passengers have already received the notification: the Volotea flight from Florence has been cancelled.
A cold shower for hundreds of passengers, many of them Sardinians, who had shown up on time at Amerigo Vespucci Airport.
According to the scant information provided during long hours of waiting with continuous delays culminating in cancellation, the cause was a thick blanket of fog that enveloped the Tuscan airport since the early hours of the morning.
Hopes that it would dissipate have been dashed. The flight to Cagliari is among those that didn't take off. But there's an anomaly: other planes, from other airlines, have departed regularly.
Many Sardinians immediately searched for alternative flights. And around 4:00 PM, the news arrived: the decision had been made to transfer to Pisa to attempt a flight from there.
