Fortunately, cyclone Cleopatra did not pass here and there have never been any particular problems due to floods, landslides or landslides, but the alert is still constant. There is no joking about hydrogeological issues and the municipal administrations of the nine municipalities of Guilcier ( Abbasanta, Aidomaggiore, Boroneddu, Ghilarza, Norbello, Paulilatino, Sedilo. Soddì, Tadasuni ), really seem to pay the utmost attention and declare themselves ready to start all necessary tools that the law provides in case of natural disaster. Also the municipal plans on hydrogeological risk are all known and in possession of the regional directorate of Civil Protection.

The deputy mayor of Paulilatino Serafino Oppo highlights how his municipality is not among those at risk identified by the Region.

"We are called in any case - says Oppo - to prepare a monitoring of the presence in the territory of canals and the like that we are completing to prepare to send it to the same Region." It is certain that even in this territory, defined as having a low risk of hydrogeological disaster, there is the need for urgent maintenance and safety measures, also overcoming objective legal difficulties regarding the cleaning of the hydrographic networks, to protect the territory and inhabited centers. The mayor of Sedilo Salvatore Pes interprets this need. "There are some situations to be solved   in correspondence with Flumineddu and Tirso, where there is a risk of flooding in some areas, caused above all by the very poor cleanliness of the riverbeds, by virtue of what I call the mania to safeguard everything and this is the cause of real forests. And then at certain times of the year there are floods ”.

As in many other municipalities in this area, also in Abbasanta we work hard for prevention. The deputy mayor of Giuseppe Congiu , councilor for agriculture and very expert in these problems, highlights an aspect that should not be overlooked, that of the burial canals. “In Abbasanta there is one that flows into the Chenale valley- underlines Congiu-. We are working on the construction of a so-called rolling basin, which will have the important function of slowing down a possible flood wave. We have sufficient resources available to allow us to build a necessary work in order not to run any risk. It will be built near the eco-center in the locality of “Osodeo”. And again on the subject of channels - concludes the deputy mayor - we have an agreement in place with the barracellar company for a painstaking control of the channels. And again, together with Forestats we had the opportunity to clean the river bed in the “Corrigas” area.

But what operationally are the actions to be implemented in the case of hydrogeological phenomena or floods? A recent exercise in the area made it possible to "prove" the level of organization of the various subjects interested in the interventions: firefighters, special groups of carabinieri, police and forestry. The positioning of a structure with huge field tents for aid to the population built by the Italian Red Cross in the area of the Abbasanta firefighters base camp did not appear unnoticed. Not least the structures of the regional health service, which intervened with ambulances, health support and simulated assistance in the various scenarios. The teams in the field, on the other hand, verified the structural stability of the damaged houses, in order to be able to bring people back to their homes. With regard to a flood event, the Oristano Fire Brigade command has begun to manage the first aid requests, sending the emergency response teams to the river.
