Over 200 controls and 50 fishing inspections with 7 administrative offenses detected for an amount of over 12 thousand euros of high administrative fines: these are the numbers of the control operation on the fish products chain conducted by the Cagliari Maritime Directorate.

About 100 non-compliant fishing gears were also detected.

The objective of the operation, in addition to verifying compliance with the traceability of the entire fishing chain, is to carry out cross-checks of the units authorized to trawl fishing through the remote fishing control systems provided by the Port Authorities.

Among the most significant violations found, deficiencies in the rules relating to labeling and traceability with consequent seizure and destruction of fish products, as well as violations relating to the failure to notify the capture and landing of swordfish by the authorized units.

The control activity carried out at sea by the Coast Guard patrol boats was also intense, whose activity focused on compliance with the post-technical shutdown provisions of fishing units and the rules relating to the correct use of fishing equipment.

The compliance of the gear with ministerial specifications, in fact, guarantees the selectivity of fishing, preventing indiscriminate catches to protect the fish fauna. In this regard, the seizure of about 100 artisanal pots, not compliant with the law, carried out in the waters of the Gulf of Cagliari during the patrol activity should be emphasized.
