The first case of West Nile fever was recorded in Sardinia in 2025: a 72-year-old man living in the capital city with underlying health conditions was diagnosed at San Martino Hospital in Oristano.
Precisely because of his condition, the elderly man was subjected to a serological test to determine the causes of his illness.
This is the confirmation of the positivity to the West Nile virus, which came from the Analysis Laboratory of the University Hospital of Cagliari.
All required measures were immediately implemented: informing the competent local authorities, conducting an epidemiological investigation, demarcating the man's residential area, and requesting the Province, the competent authority, to disinfect the area.
