Fire threatens homes in San Giovanni Suergiu: evacuation triggered, Canadair in flight

A scary afternoon in San Giovanni Suergiu due to a fire that broke out near the hamlet of Is Urigus.

Some houses were evacuated as a precaution: the flames had climbed over the hill and headed towards the town.

Two helicopters from the regional fire service intervened on site, which from above are supporting the numerous teams on the ground from the Forestry and Civil Protection, with the AssoSulcis association of Sant'Antioco. A Canadair took off from the Olbia base to reinforce the firefighting front, another arrived from Ciampino.

Meanwhile, two other fires have broken out in two separate locations around Carbonia.
