The fire that broke out at dawn in the Scala Erre supra-municipal landfill in Sassari burned around two thousand square meters of unsorted waste.
The fire kept under control by the firefighters of the Porto Torres detachment and the provincial command of Sassari, with the coordination of the staff of Secit, the company that manages the plant in the Sassari area, was apparently triggered by a rocket explosion signal used on boats and illegally disposed of in municipal solid waste.
The teams, which had been busy putting out the flames for over six hours, intervened around 6am, working together with their colleagues to contain the flames and proceed with the safety measures.
The operators of the storage plant used bulldozers for the clearance work, using clay sands to smother the fire. In the afternoon another inspection by the red helmets to monitor the situation.
The Noe carabinieri are investigating the matter, in collaboration with colleagues from the Porto Torres company and the Palmadula station.
