Two homeless people saved from death by the promptness and coolness of a carabiniere, a financier and a passerby.

It happened this morning in Cagliari, in Via Roma .

The two soldiers were on their way to their respective barracks to begin their service when they noticed a fire that had broken out near the benches where two homeless people were sleeping, unaware of the danger, among blankets and cardboard boxes.

A passerby also noticed the flames, now more than two meters high , and together with the two soldiers promptly intervened, trying to wake up the two unfortunate victims.

In the meantime, the financier used blankets to try to put out the fire, assisted by the carabiniere who recovered a case of water from the trunk of his car, transforming it into a makeshift fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

Thanks to the timely action of the three, the flames were contained before they could spread further and completely engulf the bench.

Only after several minutes did the two homeless people understand the danger they had just escaped, while the Fire Brigade also arrived on site to complete the extinguishing operations and secure the area.

"The episode demonstrates - explains a note from the Carabinieri Command of Cagliari - how a sense of duty can make a difference even in the most unexpected situations . The carabiniere and the financier, despite not yet being on duty, reacted with the promptness typical of those who have chosen to protect the community, while the passerby demonstrated that courage is not the prerogative of a uniform, but of anyone who chooses not to turn away in the face of danger . Without their timely intervention and perfect coordination, what was a story with a happy ending could have turned into a tragedy. Three ordinary heroes , with their civic sense and their spirit of sacrifice, have written a page of altruism that deserves to be told".
