A fire at Fiumicino airport and a change of planes make air connections with Sardinia difficult.

The first problem arose at Leonardo Da Vinci around 2:50 p.m., when a fire broke out on the roof of an area near Pier D of Terminal 1: black smoke thickened over the airport. "The area was immediately secured and some passengers were removed from the area and informed of the incident," the management company said. "The situation was completely resolved by 3:05 p.m., with a clear absence of smoke. An area of the departures area of Terminal 1, the one relating to boarding gates A21-A27, was cordoned off and closed to the transit of passengers and airport workers. All flights scheduled at the boarding gates affected by this ban" were rescheduled to dock at other points in the airport.

At the same time, there was a change of aircraft - the causes are unknown - for the Aeroitalia flight to Cagliari that was due to take off at 3:30 p.m.: the passengers were made to disembark and transferred to another plane, which took off around 5:30 p.m. This delay caused a series of delays that also had repercussions on take-offs from Sardinia, including the one to Milan.
