Stranded in the pouring rain, their train stuck in the middle of nowhere with no explanation: this is what happened to passengers on the train that left Macomer and headed for Cagliari this afternoon.

"What happened is absolutely unacceptable, as well as incomprehensible," denounced Claudia Camedda, general secretary of the FIT Cisl, who collected reports from some of the travelers who remained until 6 p.m. in the heavy rain.

"From what we've learned," Camedda reports, "the train, departing from Macomer, stopped due to a breakdown around 5:00 PM near Paulilatino. While a veritable deluge was unleashing, for unclear reasons, all passengers were asked to disembark and remained under a shelter, at the mercy of the rain and wind, until 6:00 PM, when a replacement bus arrived."

The union representative calls the situation "unacceptable: we believe the Region should ask Trenitalia for an explanation."

The cause of the stoppage emerged in the evening: a tree had fallen on the tracks.
