Increasingly shortage of staff and in recent times there have been seven attacks on agents.
In Massama prison, in Oristano , the situation is increasingly alarming, as denounced by the Uil union of the penitentiary police, who visited the institution today.
The regional secretary Michele Cireddu, the local delegates Marco Sanna, Alessandro Pinna and Massimiliano Spada were welcomed by the prison commander Salvatore Cadeddu (the director Elisa Milanesi was absent). «Compared to four years ago, the situation has worsened», he commented, «the staff number is 163 but 211 are expected in the workforce, the critical events were 471. This is an alarm bell that cannot be underestimated ».
In the prison, where in addition to the two common sections there are those for high security prisoners As1 and As3, today there are 243 prisoners (normal number).
«There are serious structural deficiencies and there is a lack of technological safeguards. Minimum safety levels cannot be guaranteed due to staff shortages. Our colleagues are in difficulty but, despite the critical issues, they are on the front line every day and keep the name of the penitentiary high".
Critical picture also for prisoners. «If the staff work in suitable conditions, the attention with which the prisoners are followed is greater. The more staff work internally, the more we can ensure the constitutional dictates», explained the secretary, «now we are forced to do what is humanly possible. If the institution and politics abandon the penitentiary police in this way, it is normal for the system to go bankrupt, as it is happening».
There was no way to hear the voice of the Institute's counterpart due to the absence of the director, who is now engaged in the Is Arenas colony.
