Not only mayor but also a professor of animal husbandry and genetics at the Nicolò Pellegrini Agricultural Higher Technical Institute in Sassari, Gennaro Galzerano, the former mayor of Uri, has passed away at the age of 75, leaving a huge void in the community he governed. From 2011 to 2016, he wore the tricolor sash of Uri, guiding the town with poise, respect, and profound humanity. Under his administration, the municipality experienced years of great cultural and civic ferment, with the founding of the ArcheoUri Vagando association and new initiatives to promote the history and roots of the area.
A longtime professor at the Pellegrini Agricultural Technical Institute in Sassari, he dedicated his life to teaching, instilling in young people a love of the land, knowledge, and authentic values. Galzerano was a gentle, reserved man, always present, even in the most difficult times. He faced his illness with strength and dignity, continuing to participate discreetly in the life of the town he loved deeply. Mayor Matteo Dettori, the city council, the municipal council, and all the municipal staff join in the grief of his wife Maria, his sons Luca and Giovanni, and the entire family.
"Today we are not only losing a mayor who led our country with honor," Mayor Matteo Dettori recalled, "but a man who loved it deeply. I will always be grateful for his advice, his openness, and his words of encouragement. Our thoughts go out to the family in this time of great sorrow. With his passing, Uri loses a good man, an exemplary educator, and an administrator who served his country with humility and genuine love. His moral legacy will live on in all of our hearts. Farewell, Uncle Uccio, thank you for what you have given to our community."
