Today is the 16th European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings and Sardinia is also joining the awareness campaign with the slogan "Civilization does not admit chains" , aimed at combating stereotypes and prejudices and countering hate speech.

“Trafficking - comments President Christian Solinas - is a shameful form of slavery and humiliation of human dignity . This day is an opportunity to denounce that, all over the world, thousands of people, men, women, children are being transferred from their country of origin to another by deception, or by taking advantage of their state of vulnerability, ending up in the hands of the most ruthless traffickers to be exploited in criminal economies, prostitution, organ trafficking, begging and forced marriages, up to illegal international adoptions. A crime against humanity that must be perceived by all. Once again it is necessary to raise awareness among citizens, and in particular the new generations, by cooperating with all the institutions involved in the fight against trafficking in human beings ”.

Of "unbearable injustice" that "kills the dignity of people" speaks Alessandra Zedda , regional councilor for labor. “Women on the sidewalk, young people left on the street begging, unaccompanied minors who are often made to disappear, pay the price of violence. They seem invisible people, far from us, sometimes we turn our faces not to see them. They are victims of inhumanity and have the right to support and protection to redeem themselves. We need greater awareness, we cannot pretend not to understand , but ask ourselves who is behind it, defend these people deprived of their freedom, integrating them into our society ”.

The Region has also been involved for some time on anti-trafficking policies: in the last year, through the Elen Joy Project , 42 people of foreign origin, 23 women and 19 men, coming from different fields of exploitation, sexual and working.

In addition, 842 people of various kinds and origins were intercepted.

Thanks to the night and day street units operating in the places of exploitation, and those of contact, an increase in the taking in charge of male beneficiaries, coming from labor exploitation, has emerged. "A fact - underlines the Region - which demonstrates the evolution of a phenomenon that has expanded and diversified, highlighting an emergency also coming from irregular work that requires innovative and joint intervention to help the victims of this crime".

In Sardinia, the institutional campaign is divided into thematic days , enriched by the tables created by the cartoonist Bepi Vigna. Various awareness-raising activities are planned for today.

The Regional Labor Department building displays the banner " The Region NON TRATTA ". An initiative to which various municipal administrations also adhere.

Furthermore, with the collaboration of the Daughters of Charity Congregation, two fixed stations are operational in Cagliari (in Piazza Martiri, from 09 to 13) and in Sassari (in Piazza Castello, same times) for the distribution of gadgets of the regional communication campaign. The volunteers of the Acli Civil Service, wearing T-shirts with the motto "Civilization does not admit chains", will tour the nerve centers of the cities of Iglesias and Nuoro, delivering the information material.

Finally, at the Technical Institute of Nuoro “Salvatore Satta”, in collaboration with the Municipality of Nuoro and the training institution IAL Sardegna, a round table on the theme “Telling the trafficking. The narration of the phenomenon through innovative languages ".
