Germany's candidacy to host the Einstein Telescope does not surprise the Sardinia Region, which sees it as a "great opportunity" .
Word of Raffaele Marras, consultant for the ET for President Todde .
«Considering that we are hoping for an L-shaped infrastructure (which would involve two sites), the candidacy of the Lusatia region in Saxony represents an opportunity to strengthen that of Sos Enattos », declares the consultant.
The Region underlines that Giorgio Parisi , Nobel Prize winner in Physics and president of the technical-scientific committee established by the Ministry of University and Research to support the Italian candidacy, also expressed his hope in the pages of the German periodical Tagesspiegel for Italian-German collaboration in the construction of the infrastructure, one part in Sardinia and one in Saxony.
" The detector needed to measure gravitational waves should be built in Saxony and Sardinia ," Parisi said. "Both countries have a long tradition of scientific excellence and are capable of supporting such a large-scale project over the long term."
Marras also emphasizes that already in December 2024 the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the Deutsches Zentrum für Astrophysik (DZA), «signed a letter of intent in which they committed to cooperation on the Einstein Telescope».
"With this agreement," stated Antonio Zoccoli, president of the INFN, "we want to join forces to jointly address the scientific and technological challenges that the Einstein Telescope poses and build an infrastructure that is not only cutting-edge but also a symbol of European cooperation."
Marras states that discussions have been underway for some time between the Ministry of Research, INFN, the Region, and Saxony, "precisely with a view to developing a productive collaboration that will benefit both."
