“Enzo”, the griffin who moved to the city a month ago, was found dead yesterday in the countryside of Nuoro by the Forestry Corps.
The bird of prey, which had aroused great interest, was found lifeless in Predas Arbas. Its body was transported to the Bonassai wildlife center, where an autopsy will be performed today to try to establish the precise causes of death.
Experts hope that the examination will provide clear and definitive answers, in order to understand whether the death was caused by natural factors or if there are other hypotheses to investigate.
“Enzo” was the first bird of prey to fly over the peaks of Ortobene and the hills around Nuoro from the 1940s and 1950s until today.
The vulture had returned to Ortobene and then found food on the outskirts of the city, near Predas Arbas, where in recent weeks it had fed on the carcass of a cow.
In addition to “Enzo”, his peer “Senni” is also flying through the skies of central Sardinia these days, having stopped in the countryside of Onifai.
The birds of prey arrived in Sardinia as part of the Life “Save for Vulture” project, promoted by Forestas, in collaboration with the University of Sassari, the Forestry Corps and the VCF Foundation.
