An odyssey , yet another on the Corsica-Sardinia transport front. This is what emerges from the story of the travellers on the Moby "Zaza" Porto Vecchio-Golfo Aranci which left yesterday evening. Having left the Corsican port at 6 pm, the ship only docked after midnight in Olbia (instead of Golfo Aranci), due to technical problems, amidst protests from Sardinian commuters.

At 10:15 p.m., the ferry's engines suddenly stopped at the entrance to Isola Bianca. With the resulting chaos on board : "Everything seemed to be going well - says Marco Alberti, a worker from Assemini - when the engines stopped, to everyone's amazement. A blackout occurred, blocking many of us who were on the elevators."

But the misadventure lasted longer than expected, in a night that hundreds of Sardinians will hardly forget: " After restoring electricity - adds Alberti - the captain reassured us that we would be disembarking within 20 minutes, unfortunately two hours had passed. We understood that the problems were more serious than expected, when the port tugboat arrived, while the Moby staff did not provide us with any explanation".

Shortly thereafter, the slow return to port, amidst general protests from travellers: "There were dozens of Sardinian workers in Corsica on board - Alberti says - many did not have a car with them and, once they arrived in Olbia, they lost the possibility of returning home. But above all , it was alarming to see elderly people, women and children, exhausted after hours of waiting ".

For Alberti and his family, they arrived home only at 4 in the morning: " I have been working in Corsica for 7 years - says the bricklayer - and I have never seen anything like this . It is shameful that on the threshold of 2025, Sardinians continue to travel like this. The Region must remedy this situation".

Daniela De Vecchi, a waitress from Guspini who emigrated to the French island seven years ago, also doesn't mince her words: " Not only did we leave significantly later than the 5pm timetable, but once we were sailing they told us that we would be disembarking in Olbia instead of Golfo Aranci ."

But the real surprise would come when the lights of the Olbia port were near: " Once we arrived at the garages - says the woman - and made us wait more than half an hour, the sailors told us that we had to wait . The engines were suddenly turned off and, after some time, they arrived to tow the ferry, while other ships were leaving the port".

Once the landing was completed, for De Vecchi, another three hours of travel towards Campidano: «My companion and I reached our homes in Guspini and Terralba in the dead of night, exhausted» concludes the disconsolate waitress. Who thunders: «Only two weeks ago, the Zaza had other difficulties disembarking at Golfo Aranci. The doors would not open. An unheard of disgrace».
