Acquitted because the fact does not exist. Overturning the six-month sentence at first instance, the Court of Appeal of Cagliari found the former mayor of Desulo Gigi Littarru not guilty of embezzlement.

The verdict dates back to October, but the reasons were filed only in recent days.

Littarru had been investigated on the basis of a complaint, presented by a "political opponent", fellow villager Alessandra Claudia Peddio, who accused him of improper use, when he was mayor, of the municipality's car bought with regional funds. At least two episodes were disputed, including: the journey to reach Vallermosa for an electoral meeting and the journey to Cagliari to participate in a television debate as a candidate for the Regional Council.

At first instance the investigating judge of Oristano had recognized guilt: a six-month sentence (suspended sentence) and a 5-year ban from public office. The appeal had the outcome overturned.

For the panel chaired by Massimo Costantino Poddighe, in the car affair "there was no actual damage to the functioning of the entity", which must "necessarily" be demonstrated, as required by the Supreme Court rulings. For Littarru, a painful page that opened in 2019 ends.
