Approved a project of the Municipality of Cagliari for the prevention and contrast of scams against the elderly. Shared with the Prefecture, it was examined this morning on the occasion of the meeting of the committee for public order and safety, chaired by the prefect Giuseppe Castaldo.

There are 39,543 euros available from the Single Justice Fund and the activities will begin in the first two months of 2025. Several significant actions will be implemented in the social field, under the coordination of the reconstituted Interinstitutional Working Table in which the Prefecture, the police forces and the Local Health Authorities participate.

The project idea of the Municipality aims to increase information and safety conditions for elderly people , with particular attention to those who live in contexts of loneliness, isolation and, as such, are more exposed to possible scams. Specifically, the plan includes the identification of territorial contexts at greatest risk of scams; the reconstitution of an inter-institutional network for protection and support actions for the elderly; the implementation of training/informative activities for them, their caregivers and reference persons; the dissemination of informative material with accessible content and the implementation of proximity actions, aimed at preventing and highlighting situations of exposure to the risk of scams, in order to stem this dangerous criminal phenomenon.

"It is essential that older citizens turn to the police force with confidence," comments Prefect Giuseppe Castaldo, "reporting any situation of risk of fraud, also because certain crimes cause both economic and psychological damage to the victims , making them aware of their own fragile condition."
