"The Ebola test performed on the patient yesterday was negative . The tests were conducted by the Spallanzani Institute in Rome ," the Region confirmed, following the alarm raised over a possible case in an Italian-Congolese patient returning to Cagliari.

"The Autonomous Region of Sardinia remains in contact with local and national health authorities and thanks the Ministry of Health and all the institutions involved, including healthcare workers, law enforcement, and the Civil Protection Department," a statement said.

"The patient," the ministry announced this morning , "had returned to Italy on Saturday, May 30. Yesterday, after experiencing some symptoms, he called 118 and was taken to the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari in biocontainment for the necessary diagnostic tests, as required by current protocols.

The ministry confirmed that the risk of Ebola in Italy remains very low . Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also stated: "In Italy, we don't have to worry, but we must take action. The risk of contagion in Italy is truly negligible, but we must work . The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with us and our embassies and consulates in the area, is working to adopt all necessary countermeasures to prevent Ebola from reaching us.
