Six arrests and a residence obligation are the measures carried out at the first light of dawn by the carabinieri of Livorno at the end of an operation called "Mandra" against drug trafficking between Tuscany and Sardinia.

The investigation, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, concerns seven people - Italian and Albanian - in the provinces of Cagliari, Nuoro, Livorno, Pisa and Mantua. There are 11 suspects in all. In addition to the arrests, there are also 4 complaints.

The investigations led to the identification of a new line of drug trafficking (marijuana, cocaine and heroin) from the port of Livorno to Sardinia, managed by a 44-year-old from Nuoro, who has long lived in the Pisan area. The Sardinian could count on an alleged organization that dealt with the transport of drugs that were found by two Albanians residing in Livorno, then enlisted couriers.

Once they reached the coasts of the island, the substances were delivered to a contact person who, through a distribution network, sold them at retail.

The logistic base was in the agro-pastoral farm of the 44-year-old, in the Pisan area. This would have been the meeting place, where the drugs were stored and packaged and where the couriers received the consignments to be transported.

Between June and October of last year, 30 kg of marijuana were seized, and various episodes of supply to the Sardinian "market" of about 100 kg of drugs of various types were documented.
