The rains have improved the situation of the reservoirs under the responsibility of the Central Sardinia Reclamation Consortium , but the situation continues to remain critical . For this reason, in view of a year with many unknowns, the Consortium, tomorrow at 11 in the council room of the municipality of Torpè, will meet the mayors of the Posada district (in addition to Torpè also Siniscola, Budoni, San Teodoro and Posada) for an examination of the situation. Representatives of trade associations were also summoned .

Last March 20th, the Consortium's board of directors adopted a new ordinance which lightens the measures taken at the end of February with the aim of guaranteeing the well-being of the animals raised in the consortium companies and with the desire to conserve at the same time the little water that was confiscated.

At the moment in the Maccheronis basin the situation still remains alert . From 3 million cubic meters it has gone up to around 10.5 million cubic meters with a total capacity of 22 million. On the horizon is a summer which, with these numbers, promises to be torrid from all points of view: both agricultural and tourist.

The situation of Pedra and Othoni is much better and is at 87% of its capacity with around 14 million cubic metres.

«Thanks to this rainfall contribution we managed to get the OK from the Region to use the water resources present in the Maccheronis. In fact, with a note dated March 19th, the regional bodies gave us the green light to use the resource not only for civil uses but also for use on the farm without however extending it to irrigation which still remains prohibited", the words of the president of the Consortium Ambrogio Guiso . Therefore, the categorical ban on irrigation remains in Torpè, San Teodoro, Budoni, Posada and Siniscola , even if the companies in this district can still submit an application for irrigation which will only be accepted on condition that the conditions of the basin improve .

It is possible to irrigate in the Cedrino District , but only with a shift that will be established by the staff of the Consortium's Technical-Agricultural Area once the consortium members submit their application. «It is clear - concludes Guiso - that the next few months will be fundamental to understand how we will have to deal with the entire irrigation year . And even more important is to be clear on how we will move in agreement with the municipal administrations and trade associations. At this moment we can only comply with what the regional authorities provide, invite all users of the resource to use them wisely and carefully and carry out careful and scrupulous monitoring of compliance with the provisions".
