The Court of Assizes of Appeal has once again acquitted Gianfranco Casula, a 48-year-old tobacconist accused of the double homicide, which took place on 11 February 2007, of the two young men, William Tani, 33, from Iglesias, and Giuliano Milanovic, 24, from Carbonia, who vanished into thin air after leaving the Roma camp in Carbonia.
After a conviction in the first instance, an acquittal on appeal and the annulment of this last verdict by the Supreme Court, the proceedings returned before the judges of Cagliari, who confirmed the innocence of the defendant, defended by the lawyers Gianluca and Marco Aste.
The prosecutor Danilo Tronci had requested a sentence of 18 years and 8 months for the tobacconist. In the first instance, judge Giorgio Altieri had deemed the double homicide not voluntary but unintentional, sentencing the former tobacconist to 14 years. Then, however, in June 2022, the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Cagliari had acquitted him. The sentence was then overturned with referral by the Court of Cassation. The second appeal ended with the acquittal.
